Reflections for Sergeant Kenneth Gary Vann, Sr.
Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.
Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:
“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]
[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]
And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]
“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

Sgt. Vann,
On today, the 10th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the USMC-especially during the Gulf War in 1991. John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

My faithful servant.
You were called upon to serve others.
You were asked to see, what no man should ever have to see.
To go through, what no man should ever have to go through.
But you did so with pride, honor, and integrity.
My faithful servant.
You were called upon to defend those, who could not defend themselves.
To provide justice to those, who did not respect it.
To lay down your life, if the time called for it.
Again, you did not question what was asked of you.
You did it with love, compassion, and loyalty.
My faithful servant.
In times of adversity, you prayed for strength.
In times of triumph, you praised your Lord.
You served your Country, State, and city proud.
Your service will forever be remembered by the many lives you’ve touched.
My faithful servant.
When your service on this earth is finally complete.
I will welcome you home with open arms.
I will embrace you and proclaim,
“Well done thou good and faithful servant.”
RIP my brother, the Lord has taken you home. May he forever bless your family.

Rest in Peace Sergeant Vann. I enjoyed your guidance, teaching and mentoring while I served under your command. During my time at BCSO you were the supervisor that had the biggest positive impact on my career. You were the cream in a sea of muddy supervisors.
I am attending the FBINA currently, Session #267 and will be remembering your sacrifice and friendship during our trip to the national memorial on January 25th 2017. I will step forward and honor your sacrifice and let them know you were a true leader, friend and family man.
That is is the least I could do to pay you back for all you gave me.
Amen

On 05-21-15, I was served with my subpoena for the captial murder trial date of September 14th, 2015 for your accused killer. The time for justice is finally right around the corner and I am filled with overwhelming emotions. Sadness, anger, rage, grief and the list goes on and on....I guess it was fitting since your EOW is on the 28th of this month! Our wedding anniversary is just 2 weeks from the 28th on Flag Day! June 14th! I still celebrate our wedding anniversary so that you will know that you will be my always and forever! What is with the 14th huh? Coincidence I'm sure, but strangely odd at the same time.

Sergeant Vann, Thank you sir, for your service as a US Marine and as a Peace Officer. I never had a chance to meet you, nevertheless, I know that you were a man of honor. Those that knew you, speak highly of you. You are now part of a group of many law enforcement hero's that honored their badge and made the supreme sacrifice while protecting us. Say "hi" to my son, US Border Patrol agent Ricardo up there in heaven!

Where is Sheriff Ortiz' heart?? It's not with Sgt. Vann's widow or family!
I feel for them as I suffered a tragic event in 2000 when my son DPS Trooper Randy Vetter was gunned down on a traffic stop.

You were a fellow deputy, supervisor, and one who was there for us when we needed assistance. I will always remember my first call with you as my supervisor. A loud music complaint and you were right there shoulder to shoulder with us. As a supervisor you did not need to do that, but you did. A excellant example of your character, leadership, and willingness to help. You were one of our best, you are missed. I will see you again one day brother.
