Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Samuel Joseph Lewis
I wasn't sure that I would see him on this page since it was so long ago. This was my grandfather (x6).

It is NEVER too late to recognize devotion to duty and to recall service. Deputy Lewis lived in a rough, challenging time but met his obligations completely and willingly.

Sam, forgotten for years both in deed and where buried, you are again found, to never again be forgotten. At the 9|11 ceremonies this year your new marker will be revealed and soon after, will be placed that whom you were, whom you still are, and what you did will never again be lost. Thank you for your service ... and thank you for your patience.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 130th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
Rest In Peace.

This man died doing one of the greatest services. He was protecting a criminal from the world for no reason other than he was in this Deputies' custody and care. He most likely knew this man was guilty and, in the eye of the average man, not worthy of protection, but he fought the good fight in the name of Justice and Law. I hope I do nearly as well.
