Reflections for Police Officer J. Christopher Kilcullen
God Bless you sir.

Chris,
I can't believe you are gone. You were my first field training officer when I came to the Eugene Police Department. I can't even find words to describe what a great loss we are suffering now that you are gone. I found this poem many years ago and it is fitting that I share it here. May God bless you and offer his peace and love to your family as they grieve with your brothers and sisters in law enforcement.
Tears of a Cop
I have been where you fear to go...
I have seen what you fear to see...
I have done what you fear to do...
All these things I've done for you.
I am the one you lean upon...
The one you cast your scorn upon...
The one you bring your troubles to...
All these people I've been for you.
The one you ask to stand apart...
The one you feel should have no heart...
The one you call the man in blue...
But I am human just like you.
And through the years I've come to see...
That I'm not what you ask of me...
So take this badge and take this gun...
Will you take it? Will anyone?
And when you watch a person die...
And hear a battered baby cry...
Then so you think that you can be
All those things you ask of me...?

I cannot express in words my gratitude for the sacrifices made by officers on the public's behalf; without you, I wouldn't feel safe.
I realize that I take my safety for granted, and I apologize for that. Because of you, I can walk outside, around the block, up the street and come back home safely. I can drive the streets and drive home safely..
Thank you for that.
