Patrolman Schmidt,

I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Trumann. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

For Patrolman Jonathan Schmidt:
The officer-on-patrol is confronted with both the routine and the sudden chance of engaging in a battle for his or her life in a fraction of a second. Jonathan, through fate this day, was selected as the next law officer to be confronted with the situation each of us who patrol willingly-risk in the protection of others. We regret that he would lose his life, but we rejoice in recognizing him as courageously valiant and an exceptional hero. We now rely upon our justice system to have similar courage in bringing about an very appropriate dispostion for his murderer.
We pray for Jonathan's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they each be diligent in caring for those dependent upon him for support.
We stand proudly as we render Patrolman Johathan Schmidt, a soldier-of-law, a final aalute.

May Mrs Schmidt, the children, and the family take pride in the fact that this amazing man loved them & eventually made his sacrifice upholding the laws he dearly swore to protect. I will really miss the late night talks with you, hearing you say... follow me to my house, hearing... are you going to do anything, or hearing... do you need to borrow my handcuffs because yours must be broke. then most of all I will miss laughing with you and watching how you could not sit still. but i will really miss waiting for you to call me on my days off late at night and then laugh at me saying "oh i forgot you were off tonight" I will miss your motivation that seemed to rub off on anyone that worked with you. you were a great father, husband, and friend. you are and will be missed. I love you brother

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Patrolman Schmidt. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.
From reading the reflections left for Jonathan, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Jonathan's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Jonathan's life was about so much more than the way he died. Jonathan will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.
Patrolman Schmidt, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been eight years and he's still very much missed and forever loved.
Wishing you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)

May the Lord Bless and keep this Warrior Brothers soul safe for eternity. May the filth that took this brave man's life walk the shadows of Hell..

Patrolman Schmidt, you pushed your fellow Brother out of harms way - paying the ultimate price. So many are not even worthy to walk near those shoes.
May the Lord also bless and keep those left behind safe and strong.
