I had the honor of meeting your co-workers during National Police Memorial Week. It is reassuring to know that there are still dedicated and professional law enforcement officers all across this country. While I did not know you personally, I know that your spirit and conviction live on in those that did. RIP.

I had the honor of having Jonathan Schmidt as my roommate for the Police Academy in Pocahontas, AR (BRTC/LETA Class 07-B). We kept in touch sparingly over the years, a few words of encouragement and reflection, here and there and I considered him a friend. I can say without hesitation that "Smitty" or "Trumann," as we referred to him at the academy, was one of the finest officers that I've ever known. He was into the profession for all of the right reasons and was a genuinely good person. If there were ever a person to pattern a career after, it would be him. From the bottom of my heart, I miss you my friend. God Bless Jonathan Schmidt and his family.

"For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil." --Romans 13:4

Life is eternal, and love is immortal,
and death is only a horizon;
and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.
~Rossiter Worthington Raymond

I pray that we will see you soon, on that horizon, when we meet again. Though you will be with us always, in the sun shining through the windows, the rain on our faces and the aching in our hearts. You will always be with us. God bless your family.

The sound of gunfire echoes,
Angels look down in sorrow,
Another officer has fallen,
The Gates of Heaven swing open,
A hero is welcomed home.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Matthew 5:9)
