Eric,
You were nothing but a positive force for the community. I remember when you were a medic and would come hang out at the jail and pass the time with me. You came on board at the S.O. as I was leaving. Just know that the community, your friends and family, and most especially your daughter will always be proud of you. Rest well Eric.

Another fallen hero...another sad day for law enforcement everywhere. Having grown up in next door in Mahaska County and worked in Iowa law enforcement for 10 years, Keokuk County is an example of a terrific American community, but tragic events can happen anywhere, and we all need to remember to stay vigilant. I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Deputy Stein personally as I moved from the area years ago. My brother saw him regularly and spoke well of him and this is a truly a tremendous loss for his family, his friends and co-workers & his community.
Rest in Peace brother we have the watch...
