**************
A Part Of America Died
Somebody killed a policeman today
And a part of America died...
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he had gone off to war;
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast
To his name they will add a gold star.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long, lonely nights.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today...
Maybe in your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side;
He answered the call... of himself gave his all,
And a part of America died...

While it is no consolation for your loss, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Officer Sheridan.
While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven through his selfless service to those he swore to protect.
Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

To the Family of Officer Sheridan,
Please accept my condolences for your loss. Unfortunately, this is happening more and more. He was a young man with his life ahead of him and that was cut short by a senseless act. It looks like Officer Sheridan was living his dream as he was young when he started. God bless men and women like him.
May God keep you in the cradle of his arms and my prayers are with you.
God Bless,
Juliana O'Connor
Daughter of a Fallen Officer
