Reflections for Deputy U.S. Marshal Derek William Hotsinpiller

Derek,

I fondly remember the kidding you took about living with your mother after graduating the Academy. You just smiled and laughed along with us. That big grin never leaving your face.

Its seems it was just yesterday you were asking if I had one of the old UFAP task force patches for your collection. I found one and I will place it with you so you will always have us at your side. I remember the time we spent at the college telling the young students about how great this agency is and what an outstanding career path we had to look forward too. You were so excited to share your stories with them and now your gone.

You will be missed. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. I cant say enough to take away the pain we are all feeling, to stem the sadness your family is enduring.

Go to your rightful place in heaven and watch over us so that we may carry on our duties, always with you in our hearts.

To the Hotsinpiller family, i can only say im sorry and that Derek will be missed terribly. Derek was far to you young and full of life to be taken away from us.

Rest easy brother, we have the watch.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow marshals of Deputy Marshal Hotsinpiller.

While no one who wears a badge wants to be put into such a situation, you put yourself into the line of fire to protect those whom you might not have even known despite the danger. While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven.

Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

The ultimate sacrifice was given today by this young man as he did his job. The loss to his family and friends is so sad, and we mourn with them in their sorrow. As a parent of a son who is a law enforcement officer, it is something that is always out there and you pray that they are safe and come home every day.

May the concern and consolation of family and friends who care bring you comfort at this time.
