Today we, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Recruit Class 39, honored Lieutenant Joseph Martyna with a memorial workout. Lieutenant Martyna’s death is a great blow to our FWC Family. His sacrifice goes to show the great deal of stress he was willing to endure in the line of duty. His eight-hour flight in a search and rescue mission was a testament to his willingness to put others before himself. Our class successfully completed the workout and continues to take strides to be able to dedicate ourselves to the service of others, just as Lieutenant Martyna did. He is a model for us all and his sacrifice will not be forgotten.
Respectfully,
FWC Recruit Class 39

FWC memorial workouts are a way for the FWC family to honor and recognize the sacrifices made by fallen officers. FWC Class 35 reflected on the loss of LT. Joseph A. Martyna who passed away shortly after a search and rescue mission on November 16, 2008. LT Martyna was recognized as a dependable and well-respected member of the community and to the FWC family. To honor his service, Class 35 participated in the elite level memorial workout. This is designed to be extremely difficult and allowed us to work together and excel as a family. Anytime a memorial workout is prescribed, we as a class, feel a greater sense of pride and determination to perform to the best of our ability in preserving the legacy of a fallen family member. Thank you for your service LT. Martyna, you will never be forgotten.
