We have lost a true partner...the likes of which can never be replaced.
I had the great fortune to work alongside Tom when he was my partner in his early years with Dane County Sheriff's Office. We both worked night shift out of the West Precinct of DCSO. I cannot begin to tell you all of the great times that we had working together. Tom was always respected by his co-workers, and always had a good word and a smile for you. Tom was as dedicated as anyone I have ever known. In the 26 years of my law enforcement career, I can say without a doubt, that the years assigned to the West Precinct with Tom and the rest of the night crew, were the best years of my life.
All of us performed our duties well, and had so much enjoyment doing it...We never had to ask Tom to back us up, as he was always enroute...no matter what the call. It was always just given that Tom would be there...
It was a tough day when Tom left here to move to Florida. No one wanted to see him leave, but that was his call. Knowing Tom, I cannot ever imagine that he would be any different with his fellow officers at St. Petes, as he had been with us. It is no wonder that Tom lost his life this way, as he would never leave his fellow officer. I've never known a more upstanding, honest, dedicated and unselfish friend and partner...I wish I could have just one more "Breakfast at the Flag" with him...
To His Wife P...., and his family here in Middleton, Wisconsin...You have my deepest sympathy...Wayne

To The Family Of Sgt. Baitinger:
I wanted to offer my sympathies to your family, friends and colleagues on both your death and of your partner officer Yaslowitz. Sgt. your bravery and courage won't be forgotten. My dad was a longtime New York City officer for almost 40 years with the 102 precinct. Today in Miami they buried two Metro-Dade officers after a similiar situation pursuing a suspect with the U. S. Marshal's Office. Rest in peace Sgt. Baitinger.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Sergeant Baitinger.
While no one who wears a badge wants to be put into such a situation, you put yourself into the line of fire to protect those whom you might not have even known despite the danger. While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven.
Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

Isaiah 6:8- "I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me."
It is with great sorrow that we offer our sincerest condolences on the loss of Sergeant Baitinger. As police cadets we have been taught a great many things but one cannot teach how to cope with the loss of a brother in this new family we have been welcomed into. What we have learned is that this calling is not for the weak, the timid, or the faint of heart/character. Armed with that knowledge we may not have known the individual but we do know the type of man and can be eternally grateful for the ultimate sacrifice given in the protection of others. Our thoughts and prayers are with you,
