Reflections for Detective Roger Castillo
I came across your name and that of your partner and wanted to visit your page and leave a message. Thank youf or your dedicated service to others and to law enforcement. I have no magic words to offer to help those that love your dearly and have to live with the broken hearts that may never heal. Continue to watch over them, wrap your wings around them and help protect them and ease their grief. You will never be forgotten.

As I'm sitting here today reading posts from family and friends of other officers that have also died in the line of duty, one thing is clear. The boys were so fortunate to have had you in their lives 15, 12 and 9 years. Some kids never got to meet their dads and know them only through stories and pictures. You left such a mark on them and I am forever grateful to have met and married such a wonderful man and father to my boys. I've been "strong" as people say but, deep down I am and will always be devastated by your sudden departure from this world. I know that I have to live my life and I do so with a heavy heart. I miss my normal life and family but I have to adjust to this "new normal" as everyone calls it. I know that if you could communicate with me right now, you'd say "I'm so proud of my wife". Everything I've done until now has been knowing that I'd have your blessing. Every new event that happens, you are the first person that comes to mind....Anthony with his first girlfriend right after you passed, his ring ceremony, getting his drivers license, his first car and now becoming a senior. Mikey also having his first girlfriend right after you passed, going into high school, playing basketball, getting much taller than you and me (which is not hard :)) soon getting his learner's permit. Bryan being a little version of you, loving as always but a handful, almost my height, going into middle school, playing basketball. So many new events and you are present in our hearts and minds everytime we have one. So many more memories to make without you. It hurts. I really believe that my dad gave you my message when he met you in heaven. We miss you now, always and forever.

Today I ran in memory of Roger Castillo in the National Police Week Memorial 5K in DC. It was even more special because my husband ran in memory of Detective Castillo's partner Amanda Haworth. It was a special opportunity to run in honor of such an accomplished hero who ended his watch far too soon.

Today is a sad day. However, I will never be able to think of you without being reminded of the wit and humor you displayed in NW (Sta. 1). Also remembered will be your selfless heroism, that will serve to steel the resolve of your brethren in the law enforcement community. My heart and prayers go out to your family and friends. God bless you and may you rest in peace, brother.

My condolences to the Castillo and Haworth families. I reside here in the Philippines, and learned about this tragic event from CNN online. My uncle Efren, was a police officer for the San Francisco Police Department in California for 25 years, and I respect enormously what police officers throughout the world do on a daily basis---put their lives on the line. God bless all of you reading this. My prayers go out for the surviving family members. Shalom.
