Reflections for Police Officer William Henry Torbit, Jr.
For Police Officer William H. Torbitt:
The duty of the law officer is to protect others. In the life of a law officer, sooner or later, intervening a serious police matter is almost inevitable. Circumstances sometimes demand immmediate action, and things can go wrong suddenly and without time to exhibit a police ID or announce the law officer's presence for all to hear. This incident involving our brother Bill is as serious as it can get. Responding officers act on what is ingrained in them though experience, and the worst occurred - the horror of slaying a fellow law officer. The presence of a firearm in the hands of another is always high-tension to the arriving officers. We act or we can die. We regret what has happened to Bill in this incident, and as all veteran officers know it is slated to happen again - most regretfully. Our best defense is training, though it will reduce future and similar occurences it will not eliminate them. Ever.
We pray for Bill's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. We sincerely feel the certain pain that will be endured by those officers involved in this horrific and sad situation. May they all be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead.
I am proud to render Officer William Tobitt a final salute.

Avenue of the Fallen
Standing at attention in their class “A“ uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place. As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say its ok you’re with your eternal partners. A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.
