Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Suzanne Michelle Hopper

Deputy Hopper,

I never knew you. I am sure your name came up when I was talking with a friend who is also a deputy. I got a call from another friend that morning. I remember that day all too well. I kept praying that the "officer down" call over the radio would turn out to be just a call for help. Unfortunately it was not. I kept telling myself that this couldn't be happening here to one of our deputies. After your service, all the cars with lights made it real and put everything in perspective. Now there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of you and wish I could have called you my fried.

Deputy Hopper everytime I watch that video I cringe. We're called "selfish" for what we do but our jobs are exactly the opposite. You gave your life protecting your community, but not in vain. We are here with your family, just watch over us as we finish the watch. God bless you and rest in peace sister, we've got it from here.

Every time I come here to say hello to my dad I want to also offer my love to the families of other police officers who lived their lives with selfless purpose. How lucky we are to have known and loved them- to have had them love us.

With all of my deepest appreciation for your mom

Deputy Hopper,

Your death this year was the beginning of a disturbing trend. Every time an officer is killed I receive an Officer Down notification by email. They just keep coming...they keep piling up.

It's been over five months since your tragic death. I want you to know that you are remembered and you life will always be honored.

Thank you for being that person... One of the Greats who makes the ultimate sacrifice!

Respectfully,
A Sister in Uniform

My condolences to the friends and family of this individual. She served a great 12 years while on the force, she died in the line of duty to apprehend what may have been an burglary or just a break in. My sincerest apologies to those who have suffered her loss.

I wanted to thank an officer who did her job well in serving her community. I was apart of this community and even though I May have not known you, I know your service affected my life in so many positive ways. Thank you for the work you did, I only hope one day if i ever go into the police force I can serve with as much dedication as you did.

I work in the same line of work. I always wonder why I should be doing this work. Like you, I am a mother.

God will take care of your children and your family. You were an angel here on the earth keeping the peace for the Heaven. You will all be together again one day. Thank you for your service.

I am proud of you, my Sister. Thank you for having the courage to serve in this crazy world.

I think about you everday....neighbor. Tomorrow we are planting a flowering pear tree in your honor. The tree was delivered yesterday. The flowering buds are as beautiful as you are. There will be a plaque placed in front of the tree. Years from now as people walk by and read the plaque....you will not be forgotten. We wanted a permanent way in which to honor you. Thanks for your service to our community.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Deputy Hopper. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Suzanne, she sounds like she was a great woman with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew her in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Suzanne's life and the WOMAN that she was. Remember that Suzanne's life was about so much more than the way she died. Suzanne will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember her.

Deputy Hopper, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been eight years and he's still very much missed and forever loved.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

What a senseless act of cowardice to happen to such a beautiful person! My fiance and I are both deputies and I know it could happen to either of us on any given call. What a hole it has to have left in a family, a department and a city. To have her name engraved among other fallen hero's is little thanks for the loss of such a person.

To Deputy Hopper, her loved ones, and her agency,

I never had the honor of meeting you, Deputy Hopper, but I am on the team you died fighting for, and had the privilege of attending your funeral. I hope the thousands that attended, the civilians on the street with flags and signs, the brave words of your boy, and the knowledge that your life was a credit to what you believed in are some comfort to you, your loved ones, and your fellow officers of the Clark County Sheriff's office.

Rest in Peace my Sister, God Bless you, your Family and your Dept.

Officer Bob Swope #5609
Olmsted Falls Police Dept.Ohio

The policeman stood and faced his God,which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman. How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?
The policeman squared his shoulders and said.
"No, I guess I ain't because those of us who carry a badge can't always be a Saint."
I've had to work most Sundays
and at times my talk is rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep...
though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got to steep.
And I never passed a cry for help
though at times I shook with fear,
and sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much, but if you don't...I'll understand"
There was a silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman.
You've borne you burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets.
You've done your time in Hell"

Dear Lord, law enforcement is not an easy task to do,
Yet, there are many who choose to wear the shield.
They serve each day, to the oaths they swore are true,
Protecting and serving, a safer, better world to build.

Lord now we gather to pay our deepest honor,
To those of ours officers, killed in the line of duty.
It matters not the style of shield they wore,
Only that they served with pride, and honor.

Lord all that matters is that they were one of us,
Serving wherever needed, richest mansion to dirtiest alley.
Confident and proud, highly honored by the peoples trust,
So they carried a shield, mindful of all their sacred duties.

Lord you have called several of ours home to glory,
The race with life for them is now done.
Peace, blessed peace, in safety, forever now with Thee,
Welcome rest, now in heaven for all of eternity.

May time never erase the sacrifices that were made,
May no officer ever fall alone, to lie cold in their grave .
May those of us still serving, remember well the price they paid,
May their memories stand forever as those who went down brave.

Lord give us courage to carry on, to still live and care,
To not be vengeful or bitter, to simply trust Your word it true.
May we always cover with pride the shield we wear,
To honor all fallen officers, whom we now commend to you.
