Deputy Hopper, There are no words that will express the sadness at your passing. There are no words that can make the pain leave those who love you. Time will make it bearable but never easy. There will always be a whole in lives of those who knew you.
The world is a better place because you were here and in the end, that is all we can ask of anyone.
Rest in peace

To the family of Deputy Hopper, I can truly say I know what you are feeling. The loss, the anger and the confustion as to why...I know this because 13 years ago today I lost my son in the line of duty. He was also shot and killed and he also left behind two children. I would love to say it gets better with time, but it doesn't. But you can be assured that you loved one will NEVER be forgotten. All LEO's love and honor their fellow officers. Hold your head up high and be proud of Suzanne, for she is a true hero and has earned her place in heaven...There will be a day when can actually smile on New Year, I promise you this....God Bless you all and help you find the strength to get you through the rough days ahead.

Babe, we will always remember you, not only for what you did on the streets especially to help those in need, but for your volunteerism in multiple causes including fundraising for United Way (remember Corp Challenges?), Special Olympics of Clark County, Buck Run Triathlon and tons of stuff I am missing. My family's heart goes out to your husband of just a few months and your four children.

What a tragic start to 2011 with the senseless death of a wonderful deputy, wife and mother! Truly saddened by this story and outraged at the injustice. May God bless and uplift those left behind, especially her family and friends...

A PART OF AMERICA DIED
Somebody killed a policeman today
And a part of America died...
A piece of our country he/she swore to protect
Will be buried with him/her at his/her side.
The beat that he/she walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he/she had gone off to war;
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast
To his/her name they will add a gold star.
The suspect that shot him/her will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights,
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today...
Maybe in your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors A cop put his/her life on the line.
Now his/her ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
And he/she stands at each new rookie's side:
He/She answered the call . . . of himself/herself he/she gave his/her all,
And a part of America died...
