Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Suzanne Michelle Hopper
May your rest in peace Deputy Hopper. Your service will forever be remembered and your legacy will forever live on through your many selfless actions and lives of your children. To your family, our family will continue to lift you up in prayers. We ache for you and understand your grief. We too laid to rest a hero not long ago. The loss will be forever present, but the grief becomes more bearable. This year will be the most difficult year of firsts; but, surround yourselves with your family (law enforcement family included) and friends. Allow those that love you to support and sometimes carry you. Know that triggers will arouse the memories at the most unforeseen times, tears will come, and that it is o.k. You are not alone in your grief. We pray that you will begin to see and celebrate the little joys in your daily lives and that living and moving forward will become less of a daily choice and more of a reaction of beginning to live your lives again.

"My Sister"
Although I never met her, I knew her.
She was idealistic and believed she could make a difference.
She was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
She felt privileged to be of service to her department, her community and to her country.
She was a cop.
Although I never met her, I knew her.
She was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
She laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
She was competent, trained, and professional.
She was a cop.
Although I never met her, I knew her.
She had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
She felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but she never wavered.
She stood by and for her fellow officers.
She was a cop.
Although I never met her, I knew her.
She longed for her family during the long hours.
She worried about them during her shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
She felt guilty about the lost time, but knew her calling
and prayed they would understand.
She was a cop.
Although I never met her, I knew her.
She was a good daughter, a loving wife, and a devoted mother.
She was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people she served.
She wanted to do the best job that she could and strived to be the best she could be.
She was a good citizen and a good neighbor.
She was a cop.
Yes, I did know her.
She was a cop, she was my Sister.
Rest easy Sister Suzanne, we have the watch...

Deputy Hopper, I did not know you personally but I have alot of friends that either knew you or worked with you at one time or another. The lines of state, county and city know no boundries when another one of us in law enforcement is taken from us. No matter what title or rank, it affects us all in the same way. A great loss to the state of Ohio. May your family find some comfort in reading these words left by so many. Every day we hear of another officer that is lost - tragic and senseless....your time here was short but your memory will live on especially with your co workers and family.

While it is no consolation for your loss, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow deputies of Deputy Hopper.
While I did not have the privilege to have known her personally, I am certain that she has found a place in heaven through her selfless service to those she swore to protect.
Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

I have read many of the reflections left here and attended Ofc. Hopper's funeral. I did not know her. But I mourn for her and her family. She touched so many people that her funeral was late in starting. People stood in the cold because there was no room left to go inside. Her son spoke and brought tears to to the eyes of men and women alike who did not know her. Suzanne Hopper is gone. But she will never be forgotten. I have been an officer for 18 years and have not accomplished what she has in just a few short years. I will strive to be the officer she was. And I will never forget. May God be with her husband and children. May he be with her law enforcement family. And may she rest in peace.
