Oh my, not again. This has been a very deadly week for law enforcement in this country for sure. What a shame for this young lady to be taken from the family, both law enforcement and physical family. Even more shameful is that the coward killed himself after taking this hero's life and his wife's life. Praise the Lord the officer showed true courage in the face of death by shielding the child from harm but bless her heart the child has to live with this tragedy for the rest of her life. Prayers for the officer's family and partners in this horrific time. God bless and hey, let's be safe out there in memory of our fallen brothers and sisters.

Words can not express how sorry I am for the loss and the senseless tragedy. I read the article where it said you were inspired by your DARE officer to do the right thing. I hope in my 5 years and many classes of teaching it, I have inspired some that will turn out as good as you did. May your family find comfort in knowing they had the best type of person as a daughter possible in life. With respect, GODSPEED!

To the family and friends of Officer Jillian Smith and her fellow officers:
On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Jillian was tragically killed.
To the Smith family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
Jillian was such a brave and noble officer to sacrifice her life to save a young child. It is so sad that she was robbed of her life at such a young age, one filled with promise and aspirations. Her spirit shall continue to inspire.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Jillian gave to her community and the citizens of Texas, and for the supreme sacrifice she and her family made on December 28, 2010.
