I'm filled with pride. He is still in our thoughts and never forgotten. If he only knew how he became a hero and legend in our family...and how many would still be talking about him and honoring him almost 90 years later. Grant Smith was my Great Grandfather. His daughter was Della Smith, my Grandmother. I heard about him since I was old enough to remember - my Grandmother told me the story of how he was a Sheriff and was shot by bootleggers as he walked across a school yard when she was only 9 or 10. I went from Texas to Kentucky to see Evarts and find his grave a few years ago. I would love to be in touch with cousins and share stories or pictures (who has the pic posted on this memorial?) - I'm on Facebook Melissa Boissonneault Weiss

I just read all of the reflections left for my grandfather, Grant Smith. I would love to be in touch with relatives that I did not know about. My mother went to school with Lige Smith, Grant Smith's son. Judy, I would love to have a copy of the picture of Grant. I have left my e-mail address on this page. I don't know how to get in touch with you. It appears we are cousins.

Wife of possible relative. My husband is said to be the great grandson of Grant Smith, would love a way to connect with other family members for him. Posting in hopes there is a way to make a connection for him. Is there any way to do so? Pictures? etc. We were just discussing his death about 2 weeks ago and today he found this site wondering if this was the same person as it's an honor to know of someone in such service is part of your lineage.

Mrs. Kirk,
I read all the reflections after I posted mine. I have a picture of Grant Smith. It was given to me by my half brother Craig Smith. It is only a photocopy, but if you are like me that is better than not knowing what he looked like. Feel free to email me and I will see what I can do about getting you a copy of what I have.

I have just traced my background. I am the daughter of Lige Grant Smith, Officer Smith's son. I was placed up for adoptation at the time of my birth and was so very proud to find that my grandfather was an officer. I plan to make a trip to Evarts and visit his grave.

Like all officers that died in the line of duty, my grandfather was truly a hero. I am sure he would have been proud of his son Manford's service in World War II. On behalf of all of Manford's sons, we salute you.

Grant Smith was my grandfather. I never had the privilege of meeting him as he was killed prior to my being born. It would be wonderful to have a picture of him and also to know what happened to the people responsible for his death. My dad was only five years old when his father was killed. Too many families have lost their loved ones. Thank you granddaddy for your service.
