His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

I was very fortunate to meet Sam in an unfortunate situation for me. He looked after me and watched my back when he didn't have to. This man alone restored my faith and respect for all police officers from that day on. I'm sure his family and friends know what a great person he was, I just wanted to say he made a difference in my life as a citizen as well.
You are in my prayers, and thank you.

i see no difference in a medal of honor for the military- it is a war and young men of our country are placeing themselves in HARMS WAY every day. i think recognition should be at the national. GOD LOVES

My husband is an officer in Cheyenne, WY...so Deputy Brownlee's loss hits close to home. May God bless your wife during this time, and place an extra level of protection upon your fellow deputies while they mourn your loss and continue to serve and protect the citizens of Weld County.

I am deeply saddened by this trajedy. My father was an L.E. officer for 25+ years and I know all too well the worries that the family must endure every time their father, son, mother, and sibling go out on duty. Deputy Brownlee was a true hero who did not deserve to be taken away from his family just two days before Thanksgiving. To have such a brave person taken from their family and colleagues is just downright disheartening. Rest in Peace Deputy Brownlee...you will be missed dearly...
