as Officer Dittamo's first line supervisor, i'm really speechless. i feel like i've preached enough during my roll-calls ... BUT, what I will say is this: Ofc. Dittamo is entirely TOO young on EVERY level to have left this earth. May he rest in peace and may his family, friends and loved ones find comfort while cherishing his memory during this very difficult time.

For Police Officer Paul Dittamo:
Our duty as law officers on patrol takes us onto one of the deadliest battlefields of all - a United States highway. Each year thousands die and even more sustain horrendous injuries in crashing vehicles. The law officer is not exempt from this cavalcade of carnage involving rapid transportation. We regret that our brother Paul would become a statistic in traffic - but fate has apparently deemed it to be so.
We pray for Paul's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead.
As a retired state trooper, and a former DC Metropolitan Police officer, I am proud to render Officer Paul Dittamo a final salute.
Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)

We knew Paul from the time he was in 1st grade. He had a smile that could light up a room, and the only thing larger than his smile was his heart. He was a delightful, enthusiastic young man, deeply devoted to his family, very dedicated to his work, and so loyal to friends and neighbors. His was a full life that brought so much laughter, warmth, and love to those around him. We will miss the opportunities to see his smiling face, enjoy his laughter, and engage in great conversations with him. Our sympathy and love go out to his family and co-workers.
