For Deputy Sheriff Dean Miera:

Our duty as a patrol officer takes us onto one of the deadliest battlefields - a United States highway. Thousands of people die and many more are seriously injured in this cavalcade of carnage. We who patrol are not exempt from the perils of high-speed travel. We regret that our brother Dean would become a traffic statistic - fate apparently has deemed it to be so.

We pray for Dean's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead.

I am proud to render Deputy Dean Miera a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
