September 17th 2001, My first night at Teaneck police Dept. I arrived for the 2300-0700 shift @ 2230. My Blue Dodge Dakota pick up parked in the lot I entered the com center, I was there maybe 5 minutes when I hear this voice bellowing in the lobby " Who's F@#$ing blue truck is that with the Confederate Flag on it"? That was my first John Abraham experience. After several weeks of chop busting John and I became friends(I had most of that chop busting coming to me).

After a few years of working with John he urged me to take the civil service test for Teaneck, his own words "You don't belong behind the mic you belong out hear with us BROTHER". That meant the world to me, to be a dispatcher yet considered a BROTHER. When I ran into some personal issues, John was one of the first to lend an ear, and offer some helpful advice that helped me through MY tough times all the while breaking chops in front of our colleagues.

That is the type Of person John Abraham was and that is the John Abraham I will always remember. Rest in piece my friend, my BROTHER.

To Martha, you were blessed to share your life with John may his memory always live on in your heart. My deepest condolences.

Rest In Peace Brother. I will truly miss seeing you on the road.
"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

John knowing you was my privilege. To Tom and all of his family and to the members of the Teaneck Police Dept. my deepest condolences.

"As you remember these fallen officers, take comfort in recalling that they dedicated their lives to the same principles of honor, duty and courage that brought you to the badge. Such a life is truly rich. Take strength in knowing that when an officer falls, our resolve to serve those in need is not diminished. Our dedication to protecting those in danger is not weakened. Our commitment to remembering those with whom we shared the badge does not fade.

Godspeed, brothers and sisters. You fought the good fight. Now rest in peace…"
