For Patrolman Walter E. Harris:

Our duty as law officers of yesterday, as at present, involves freak accidents whereby one of our ranks encounters death or serious injury on the job. The fall from horses or wagons directly relates to the perils of the motorized vehicles of today. The results being much the same together with the attending tragedy and heart-break. We regret that our brother Walt would have such a fate so many years ago.

We pray that Walt is remembered by those in his family and his workplace, at least on special occasions. He is a true soldier-of-the-law and provided those of his day with the necessary protection for an orderly society.

I am proud to render a proud salute to a noble law officer of the past.

Patrolman Harris, horses have been replaced but as is all too evident, that has not ended accidents or the loss of good women and men such as yourself. Your nine years with the Boston Police was far too short and I cannot help but wonder what you might have accomplished had this tragic even not occurred. Thank you for your service to the people of Boston and the Commonwealth as a whole.

God Bless you and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.
