Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Anthony Michael Wallace

For Sergeant Anthony Wallace and Officer Matthew Tokuoka:

Our duty as police officers is one of risk and danger. Hardly ever is there a time when the possibility of attack is not present. Regretfully, we cannot positively guarantee even our own safety. Especially when crazed and vicious types walk among us.

We regret that our brothers Anthony and Matthew have fallen victim of and individual harboring enough hate to slay them - and in the presence of loved ones. Surely both of these officers viewed the public they served with both trust and admiration. We hope that one individual will not now have replaced this with any over-measure of fear and suspicion by those who continue to keep law and order.

We pray for the families, friends, co-workers and all who care about Anthony and Matthew. May they all be ready to reach-out to one another and to keep alive the pride Anthony and Matthew had for their community.

I am proud to render Sergeant Anthony Wallace and Officer Matthew Tokuoko a final salute.

Tony,
I can't believe you're gone. You were incredible at the Academy. Someone we all talked about... in a real good way. You handled yourself so well, I swore you had prior street experience. You always brought the 'A' game to everyone. So much drive and determination to get it done better than "just right" or "okay". You had to hit the top bar and yet in the down time, you could bust out on somebody - anybody - so bad. Hot chocolate is good going down, not going up your nose.... good times.

It was an honor to meet you, a pleasure to know you and train with you, and with unbelieveable regret and sadness that you were taken from us so very, very soon.

Rest easy, my brother, we've got it from here.

When I read that Sgt. Wallace had his mother in the car for a ride-along, my heart broke and I cried for this Officer and his family! I can think of nothing worse for a mother than to witness your childs death! I hope justice is swift and sure for this scum but nothing will ever erase from this mother's mind or heart the vision of seeing her precious child taken from her by such a low life! The only thing that could possibly ease this mothers pain is knowing that she was there when her hero came into the world and she was with her HERO when he left this world. Sgt. Wallace's family, friends and the Hoonah Police Department, you all in my prayers. God Bless and Godspeed.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of these fine officers.
I was absolutely stunned when I read this report! I was there on a cruise less than a year ago and was treated like gold by all members of their department! Being a die-hard patch trader, I hiked the distance to their PD/FD/EMS station. Even though I protested, they insisted that I should take a patch from all three divisions. They were the nicest people I have met in a few short minutes.
I would bet that most people couldn't even fathom a guess as to where Hoonah is on the map. I have all three of their patches proudly posted on my board. They will stay there, with one reminder... There will now be a mourning band displayed on the PD one...
Unfortunately, I could never have dreamed that an incident like this would occur in such a charming small town.
I'm sure this has left the community reeling... God bless you gentlemen... You have already accepted your reward!
