Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Christopher L. Dewey
Chris was a beautiful soul, son and big brother to a bunch of boys! Big football player that was kind and caring. I was his uncle in law for a time and he was just one of those good kids that was always helping his mom or Grandma with anything they asked. Teaching so many boys (little brothers) that Poppe had how to be Men and what being a man meant!
Chris was a perfect example of an honorable, hard working , serving member of the officers living in the United States.
Chris i thank you for your service to Minnesota, the people of the area you served, and ultimately your sacrifice. Love you man!

Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.
Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:
“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]
[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]
And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]
“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

Chris, I can't believe it has been over four years since your end of watch. I still think of you often. Your wife is still in my prayers. Miss joking around with you. I was around on your first day of work and last day of work. You were not my coworker but you were by brother. I see reminders every day I work and wish that you were still here.

Dearest Christopher,
It was a strange bit of fate that led me to your story, and your family, 2 years ago this month. Although you were being cared for in CO, a trip west led us to you, Emily, and Hannah. What a blessing for us. We never had a chance to meet you, but you changed our lives. My husband and I, both LE, were moved beyond words after meeting your family. Their love for you was something we can now strive for, as we have been witness to it.
Hannah now serves with us, and is your biggest fan (next to Em). You would be so proud of the Officer she has become. It is certainly a tribute to the man you were. As she spoke about you at your funeral, she told the world that she hoped to make you proud.
Matt and I look forward to celebrating your life, and honoring the sacrafices that you made. Please be with us in DC this year, as you and our brothers and sisters who have joined you in heaven are memorialized and remembered at Police Week. You are a hero, and we will never forget. God Bless you and keep you, Emily and your family.

To the family and friends of Deputy Christopher Dewey and his fellow officers:
On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Chris tragically died after fighting so hard for many months to survive his wounds.
To Chris' family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Chris gave to his community and the citizens of Minnesota, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on August 9, 2010. I am so sorry he was robbed of his life at such a young age.
