For Sergeant Orville Smith:
A law officer who serves his city for almost twice as long as average indeed has brought himself special honor. For some of us, dedication is more than just a word. We who wear the badge can feel the appreciation that we share. We regret that Orville's long and noble career would end so unceremoniously. He is deserving of so much more. Somehow, I feel that Orville himself would be the last to complain. His almost 40 years of devotion to duty speaks loudly and clearly that others came first. To him, it appears, no greater honor could be earned.
We pray for Orville's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May the share the peace that he brought to so many in such a lengthy career.
I am proud to render Sergeant Orville Smith a final salute.
