Reflections for Officer David Lamar Curtis
Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.
Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:
“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]
[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]
And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]
“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

Year 13. The pain is not as sharp but the hole in our heats and lives is as large and void as ever. My pain is a chronic, heavy, ache now. Every day David, every day we continue to mourn you. Everyday.

Officer Curtis is forever cherished within my family. He lives forever being an organ donor, and my father as a benefactor. My family is forever grateful. Officer Curtis’ family is respected immensely as well.

Well....it's coming up on 10 years. Two of your four sons are now graduated. One is in college. Three are driving. Time does not slow down.
Mitch is a Sergeant now. He can blow up toilets in the department and still manage to make rank. You would be proud of him. Foley PD is proud of him.
We gather Monday at TPD to remember you. Riots are occurring all over Tampa. People hate the police there. But, you and Jeff will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. Your niece, Jordan, has a running commentary on Instagram in support of Police. She has grown up watching her mother (your twin) and me work hard with Concerns of Police Survivors. She sees the injustice and disrespect for the job you loved so much. You would be proud of her.
We miss you. We talk about you daily. Love mom

My son,
You are remembered. Every day I see references on social media about you. Today is 9 years. I am so sad you haven't gotten to see your sons grow up. They are growing into wonderful young men. Kelly has done a fine job raising them. You would be so proud. Your sister has done well but misses you so much. Me and your dad keep on keeping on with a weight on our hearts. You will live on. Love you.

Every time we loose an Officer I relive your death. Lost an officer in Biloxi last night. Remember when you worked Katrina over there? I cherish those pictures of you. I wish people would respect the job you and other officers give your lives to. Your memory lives on. Another mother's day rolls around. Love, mom

I worked with David at the Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office. He was my partner for the last year before leaving to join the Tampa Police department. I was the old Deputy and he was the new young one. I was so very proud of him, and if I ever had a son, I would wish that he would be just like David. Several cell phones later, I still have his original number. I cant bring myself to delete it.

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

Rest easy my brother. You and your partner have paid the ultimate price, and are in God's hands. Both your memories will always be alive in your loving families hearts, as well as your coworkers.
May all who knew and loved you are blessed and forever safe from harm.

Praying for your family, today. The loss of a parent is incredibly painful, but even worse when it feels as though it wasn't their time. I pray your boys feel the love of the Heavenly Father as they aspire to be a man of character & courage like their earthly father.

Although we never met, I have had the honor of working with the mother of Deputy Curtis through the COPS organization, local Victim Vigil and LE Memorial. As we plan this year's events we honor and remember the sacrifices of David and his partner Officer Kocab and the loss to their families and their community. You are not forgotten. See you men on the high ground.
