Officers Kocab and Curtis, you were murdered over a lousy misdemeanor warrant. I hope this miscreant finds true justice for his crimes, if not in this world then in the next. You both are heroes, not because of the sacrifice you made, that makes you martyrs, but because of what you did in life. Thank you and my prayers are with all who know and love you, no matter where they may be.

Some will say your child will never get to know you, I cannot believe that. I believe you will not allow that. That child will grow up feeling you with him or her. You child will know your love.

Go in Peace and Rest in God’s Precinct, you’ve earned a rest, Brothers.

I was filled with sorrow when I read that yet another fine Officer lost his life in the line of duty. My brother, Cpl. James Szuba and his K-9 dog were killed on January 9th of this year. I can only say that my prayers are with your family and you will never be forgotten. You are a true Hero! I pray that the person responsible for this tragedy is found and Justice will be served. God Bless.

In every life a day arrives, like any other. One moment, all is well, the next, you want the world to stop, the heavens rage, and we weep. A man is dead. Each of us will mourn in our own way, remembering our lost. Men and women who serve share a special bond. Death is always near, and it is our way to make light of it. Yet, when it happens, a hole is there, one that never fills. These officers will always be in our hearts. I salute you, Officer Jeffrey Kocab.Husband, Father, Man.

Officer Kocab your spirit will live on with the thin blue line. Your soul can rest, justice will be served for your sacrifice in this world. It is sad this animal decided to take your life instead of manning up to his past. Rest in peace my friend, you have earned it. A hero dies only once, this coward will die a thousand deaths in this world and the next. He cannot hide from justice, period.

My family and I wish to express our heartfelt condolences to another hero. Like too many other heroes, your EOW came entirely too soon. More importantly, your dear wife gave birth to a beautiful baby you will never get to hold. How sad that you gave up everything to protect us. You paid a price no one should have to pay to guard our safety. God Bless you, your dear wife and your new baby. Thank you for your bravery, your honesty and your integrity. More importantly thank you for the sacrifices you made in selflessly serving all of us. Only those of us who have served fully understand the sacrifices we make to protect our families, friends, and fellow citizens. By and large these sacrifices pale in comparison to your ultimate sacrifice. You are in our prayers. Rest is peace hero; your watch is over...we will take the watch from here.

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whose blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Your sacrifice and last full measure of devotion will not be forgotten. RIP Brother

"Never forget what they did here. It is rather for us, the living, to be dedicated here to the great task remaining before us - that, from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here, gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain."
