To the family and friends of Officer Brett Oswald and his fellow officers:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Brett was tragically killed.

To Officer Oswald's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Brett gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on June 27, 2010.

I worked with Bret while he was assigned to the Air Operations Unit in Coastal Division. He was a fantastic officer. He had a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by the department and his friends. Today is your funeral. I wish I was there. God Bless you and your family. My prayers are with them. To Bret's dad I want to thank you for all the volunteer service you gave to Air Ops. You and your son were a great example of those who willingly serve others.

Its been 26 years since I worked for your dept and yet the pain of the loss of someone in the uniform I wore is as sharp as when I attended services while active. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten as it occurred from keeping others safe. God has a new peacemaker on board!
