Reflections for Sergeant Douglas A. Weddleton

Sergeant Weddleton, it has been 14 years since you were taken from us. New England law enforcement has continued to thrive, learn and become safer due to the traditions and sacrifices you, your family, and many others have made for us. Thank you for your 28 years of law enforcement service.

I have always tried to be the best student I can be. I have a 4.7 weighted gpa and I've been in the high honor roll many times. I took one AICE class which was Spanish and I'm currently in one AP class which is AP Human Geography. If I win the scholarship, what I plan to do is use the money to pay for Hillsborough Community College and study biology and marine science.

SGT Weddleton, upon searching about you, I have been honored to read about how great you were. Last year, I helped in moving your memorial on route 95 to the Foxborough Baracks so that we could install a highway sign in that spot without damaging your memorial. It was such an honor to handle your memorial. As I read about the people who continually write about you, it fills my heart to think about how much people still think about you and love you. Thank you for your service, Sir.

It has now been 17 years. This date has seen the lives of FIVE Law Enforcement Officers from Massachusetts taken. I pray to God you are the last name on this list for this date and that no other date sees the adding of any names.

But sadly, we all know that will not be the case.

You are rightfully honored here. God Bless and may your rest be and always be, peaceful.

I love you and I miss you, dad. The wound hurts today just as much as it did 5 years ago. I think about you and the valuable lessons you taught me every single day. I can still hear your voice and picture your contagious laugh, which often lifts me up when I’m feeling down. Please continue to watch over us and give us the strength we need to carry on without you.

Until we meet again…

Love,
Your son

It is now the five year mark since you were tragically taken from those who knew and loved you best, your family, friends and co-workers. No doubt they still remember your laugh, your thoughtful advice and your dedication to duty. You are the fifth law enforcement officer to die on THIS date in the Commonwealth since Warden Lincoln was murdered in 1843. Though we all know in our hearts you won't be the last, we can at least PRAY you will be, on this date and every date until time ends.

God Bless and may your rest be ever peaceful, Brother.

Doug was a great guy full of life and loved his family dearly. He would always be talking about his wife and children. I worked with Doug when he was at the Crime Lab in the Ballistics Section. My Father Trooper Hanna was Killed in the line of duty in 1983. It was very hard when doug was taken from all of us. I know in my heart that he is patrolling the sky with my dad. He is also riding shotgun with patrols so they are not alone. God bless his family he will always be remembered.

Thinking of your family during this holiday season which can be very diffucult times on this grief journey. Your heroism and service is honored today. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both their pain and pride are forever.

Sadly for us, it’s not true what they say, time doesn't heal all wounds. It’s easy for some to forget and underestimate just how devastating your loss has been. There's absolutely nothing that can fill the void left in our lives. Your family still thinks of you every single day and we need nothing more than your warm and energetic presence back in our lives. Since you've been taken away from us nothing feels the same. A table for 5 just doesn't sit right like a table for 6 did.

I hope you know just how much you meant to us and that we will never forget the sacrifices you made for your family. You weren't just a police officer who died in the line of duty, you lived as an admirable father and caring husband. You spent your life dedicated to your family, which makes your passing that much more difficult.

Please continue to give us strength, as we continue on without you. You are in my heart and soul always. I love and miss you terribly dad.

Love,
Your son
