Reflections for Police Officer Travis Paul Murphy

For Police Officer Travis P. Murphy:

The law officer on patrol is the front line soldier-of-the-law. Each officer that patrols is the walking target for those whose desire is to react violently with little or no warning. Despite this truism, the patrol officer proceeds to each assignment as a matter of duty, more than a matter of dread or fear. We don't ask for the public's sympathy or support more than we simply ask for fairness and understanding. Beyond that, we rely most upon our brothers and sisters who wear a badge. Each time a law officer is slain the impact of the tragedy and loss is felt by us all. Each of us then, if not before, must decide what will be our response.

We pray for Travis' family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days to come.

I am proud to render Officer Travis Murphy a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennylvania State Police

It is always heartbreaking to hear of another loss, of another family that has to learn how to survive without a love one, of another child growing up without their parent, of another spouse that feels alone.
I am so sorry for your loss and know that you are more than likely still in shock. Just know that you and your family are not alone; even in the dark of night or the early morning hours when you're sure you can't get through this, there are those of us out there thinking of you, sending you hope, strength and love. Not only will your officer not be forgotten but you won't be either. Thank you so much for your sacrifice as a family.

There is nothing quite as paralyzing and heartbreaking as a line of duty death...and I am so sorry for your loss. The thin blue line is a strong knit group of people...a brotherhood. Please know you are in our prayers and thoughts and thank you, officer, for your service.

I check this site everyday in hopes that no new bio's appear. Unfortunately, like most days, I have to pull my patrol car over and take a few moments to shed a few tears and reflect. Today is no exception. All I can offer up are my thoughts and prayers.

"He Answered The Call"

Today in the sun, I bid him farewell
A man, a hero, I never knew well

Like many before him, who answered the call
Wearing a badge, he was destined to fall

Though by choice a long life and a happy old age
Would he have chosen, had he written the page

But the office he chose never promised long life
Just half of his salary, for his children and his wife

He went without fear, into the darkness of night
Bringing comfort to some, to some others light

Easing their pain and calming their fears
He did his duty, never asking for cheers

A husband, a cop, he answered the call
We bid him farewell for he gave his all
