Reflections for Police Officer Thomas E. Wortham, IV

Two tours of duty in Iraq. An Officer who spent his free time trying to make his neighborhood a better place. What a sad day. I will be thinking of your family during this terrible time.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Officer Wortham. This brave young man served our country and our community, only to be senselessly gunned down over a material item, right in front of his father. After 25 years on the job, I still cannot understand those who would take a life over a car, motorcycle, wallet, or a $2.00 bottle of liquor.

I know that no words will help feel the anquish that his family is suffering now, but I hope that the memory of this fine young man will never fade.

God has received a man of impeccable service to both his community and his country on your entry into His kingdom joining with our brothers and sisters from law enforcement who have also paid the ultimate. Your brothers and sisters left behind will care for your family and will keep your name, love and dedication to God's children in your community in the forefront of memories forever. As you meet and work with your new Sgt, Jesus Christ, give him a hug for all of the law enforcement personnel left behind. In Christ.

Anybody wanting to know what it takes to be a "real hero" or a "true Patriot" need only look at what you accomplished in your short time here on earth. Chicago not only lost a great officer, the entire WORLD lost a great leader. While I am truly saddened by your loss for your family and friends, I am also incredibly angry, not only for your senseless death, but for the fact that SO FEW men of your caliber exist these days. I thank you for your service to your country, your city, your state, and to the entire WORLD. To your family, I can only hope that your sense of pride exceeds your sense of grief and anguish. You raised, and sadly lost, a remarkable man. Rest in Peace Brother. You have certainly earned it.

Officer Wortham and family, my deepest condolences for your loss. This is a prime example of why I continue to fight my departments policy regarding carrying a weapon while off duty. To all the officers and family that read this, please support Legislation HR 675 so that all Law Enforcement can carry concealed weapons while off duty so we can protect ourselves and the public when we are off duty. My prayers are with you Officer Wortham III while you heal through this tragedy. God Bless your family and the Chicago Police Department.

What a truly horrible and tragic incident. God Bless Thomas Wortham IV, he has lived a regretably short life fighting for against evil and for righeousness both in his hometown and abroad. Now he is assuredly at peace with his Savior where no evil exist. God strenghen his father and family who are left here to soldier on and carry this horrible burden. I am so sorry for your loss.

My heart is aching for you and your family. We saw your contingent of officers at Police Week, and with sadness we join your family and department in mourning the sacrifice of such a brave hero. My wife Linda and I are touched deeply by the story of Officer Wortham and can only hope that your family will know that there are others who understand such loss and know what a large place is empty that you once occupied in your family and in your deprtment. You and your Father are both heros who we hold in highest regard and adoration. Please know that prayers are unceasing for your family, coworkers, and friends.
