Reflections for Trooper Patrick Ambroise
Brother, I heard about your End of Watch while I was at National Police Week honoring last years fallen. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and agency and I will be honored to stand for you and other fallen Brothers and Sisters at the memorial next year. I would like to pray that there will be a year that no names are added to the wall. You will not be forgotten Brother!

Dear Patrick:
Once again I find myself writing another reflection to another one of our family, taken all too soon, at the prime of life. Life...that's something we law enforcement officers are sworn to protect at all costs, including the loss of our own if necessary. That's a hell of a commitment, and it takes a hell of a man to honor that commitment. And so you are, and so you did. You gave your life in upholding the promises made to us by our Founding Fathers, 230 years ago...we Americans shall live free, and in that freedom, comes the promise to live free from fear. As our honorable military protects the Homeland overseas, we do it right here in our own backyard. Now you are among America's Finest, and I am certain that when you walked through the Gates of Heaven, you heard the words, "Welcome Home, Patrick". For your family...may they know they are never alone, that my wish is that Almighty God hold them close to His heart, while He holds you in the palm of His hand. Rest well, my brother...we have the watch. "Above all else, honor". God Bless you, God Bless police officers, and God Bless the United States of America. Amen

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!
"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Trooper Ambroise will be greatly missed. We grieve with his family and the family of law enforcement at the Florida Highway Patrol. Though we can never fully understand why these terrible things happen, we do know that his sacrifice in the cause of freedom and protecting the weak and innocent is not in vain; indeed noble and worthy of our full measure of devotion. We in Arizona have lost several officers in the same fashion and understand your pain and concerns. God bless the family of Patrick Ambroise and all who labor daily to do a dangerous and sometimes thankless job...the reward is in knowing we made a difference in many lives along the way. Rest in peace brother.
