Reflections for Officer Rodney Tomlinson Holder
Rodney,
I'll never forget the good times that you, Jerry, and I shared in CID. You were always there with a smile and a helping hand. Nobody can hold a candle to your sense of humor and your love for your family and friends.
I can only hope to live my life half as well as you did. While it breaks my heart, I know that we will one day see each other again.
Rest easy brother.
Your friend,
Shad

About a month ago, Rodney was one of the officers that interviewed me for the position I filled in the Traffic Division. It seems unreal that in such a short time, I would be called upon to assist in the investigation of his death.
During my first day assigned to the traffic unit, Rodney stopped me in the parking lot as I was headed out. Whatever Rodney said always seemed right for the situation, and this time was no different. He told me to relax, treat people with respect, go have fun, and enjoy working traffic, or what he called "the best job in the world".
Thanks for the advice. I will remember it always. Having the opportunity to escort you back into town yesterday was beyond words.
10-42 T-23, thy good and faithful servant.
Officer David (Scooter) Thompson Jr.

I am Rodney's cousin from Va. I only learned of this tragedy in our family Friday night. I regret many things in life such as living so far from my Texas family that we had only limited contact. I am vary proud to see that crazy cousin Rodney had such a profound impact on so many lives. Mourn our loss but be comforted that a person such as he can only be in a batter place. Thank you all for all you do.

Protect us from above as we continue to protect those below you. Being a Motorcop I know that you loved you job and by doing that you gave the ultimate sacrifice. Keep the rubber side down and the boots polished.
You are a true hero to your family, community and state. With that I render a final salute.

I did not know Rodney personally but my heart goes out to all at Abilene PD and his family and friends. I remember a very big group of motor officers from Abilene attended Officer Story's funeral in January and it made me so proud that they traveled all the way to Arlington to show support. Im sure Officer Holder was there and I appreciate it so much. May he rest in peace.

Rodney would always greet me with, "Hey Big Boy..." He was always smiling and he had this personality that just made you want to be around him. He was very polite and professional around the public but always seemed to be joking around with us guys at the station.
Life changed on 4-29-10. I was writing a report at 11:50am just like any other day, then and at 11:51am I was first on scene looking at my brother, Rodney Holder.
Rodney I will miss you. You were a great example and an honorable man.
Mrs. Holder I have been thinking of you and praying for you and your family.

Dear Holder Family and APD Family:
How sad it is to lose one of our family and that's what Rodney was to all of us, his wife, daugher, son and at the City/APD--family but how blessed we are to know that he is with the Father and we will see him again. There are no words that adequately express my sympathy for your loss. Rodney was a great man and a great cop. He will be truly missed. God bless you all and hold you in His arms.
