Rodney was cut from the same cloth as his late father, Worth Holder, who was one of my heroes from The Greatest Generation of World War II. Worth could talk for hours about how God spared him so many times as a top turret gunner on a B-47 bomber making numerous raids over Germany. But he preferred to talk about Rodney and Jennifer and how proud he was of them. APD and the City of Abilene went a long time without losing an officer in the line of duty, but the deaths of Jeff McCoy and now Rodney are beyond tragic. My prayers will be with his family.

Rodney was a wonderful father, husband, son, and friend. Mrs. Holder was my 4th grade teacher back in the 90's and spent time at their home for class parties. Rodney was a wonderful police officer and if you had anything to ask him he would give you the best advice he had. I could ask him advice about anything and he would do his best to give me answers. He will be missed very very much. I loved his family like they were my family. I sent Christmas cards every year and sometimes I would get a card back. RIP Rodney we will all be with you when it's our time.

Rodney was one of the most compassionate and caring officer I have known in a long time. He was always kind even to people he was having to arrest or came in contact with on his job. My prayers go out to his family. This is the toughest time anyone can go thru but to his friends and family always remember "Never put a question mark where God has put a period"

For those of you who did not have the honor of knowing Rodney, we have lost one of our finest. Of course he was a great officer but as a human being he was in that special catagory of people who really made a difference and were of great benefit to our society. A friend of twenty plus years will certainly be missed . Rodney overcame whatever adversity crossed his path and his positive attitude and outstanding human nature will live in the hearts of all who came in contact with him. There are not enough nice things that could be said about him. Whatever outstanding attributes one could define, Rodney had them all. My prayers go out to his wife, kids and family. I have lost a part of myself today but Rodney's positive influence will live within me forever. Bruce Reed

Rodney was always such a sweet and gentle man. We attended high school together. In November 2009, my mom was in an accident on Buffalo Gap Rd. and he was there doing his job and making sure she was ok. I am going to miss him.
May God take hold of his hand and may he also wrap his loving arms around his family to help ease their pain.

Rodney drove our bus to our last freshman baseball game at Ft. Worth Paschal. He was a very kind, caring man, and a great father. His son accompanied him on this trip, and you could just sense a special bond, and love between them. We visited about how dangerous it was riding a motorcycle, and he mentioned a time when he was previously hit by a motorist. He was hurt, but not seriously injured. He really felt bad for the driver of the car who was an elderly man, who had been sick and was having a bad day. Then to top it off, the man hits a police officer on his bike. I didn't know Rodney well, but I'm sure this was an indication of the kind of man he was. I am saddened to hear of his passing, and I offer up prayers for his family. God Bless.

I knew Rodney from the police academy in 1982. I have had many occasions over the years to speak with him as he rode around Abilene performing his duties ever so professionally. He was truly one of the nicest and most sincere police officers I have ever known. He will be greatly missed and my prayers go out to the family, both immediate and those in blue who worked beside this respected man daily as he protected and served the citizens of Abilene. God Bless.
