Reflections for Police Officer James David Bonneau

Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:

“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

Officer Bonneau,

Shortly before you lost your life you were dispatched to the South Side for an injured deer walking down the road, we had called it in. I remember it was snowing like crazy and you and my husband went into some of the empty lots behind our house looking for her. You handed your card to us and said call back if we saw it again, you were concerned for her suffering as we were. I remember my husband saying that you both were walking through the snow and you and he had laughed about how silly it might look to anyone driving by. I saw you a few other times and you were always so kind.

Almost 10 years later we often think of that call and how you were taken from your family and us citizens that appreciated what you and your fellow officers do. It was probably one of the silliest calls you had gotten, but it made a lasting memory for us and our family.

Thank you for serving us and I am sorry your life was taken.

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". My brother was one of James' F.T.O.s. He was a good man and his loss was something that deeply affected many, including my family. He will always remain in our heart and in our prayers, as will his family, both in blue and in blood.

Your EOW is the same as our nephew's, CPL Thomas P. Jensen #2853, PGPD. Seven years ago we were mourning the loss of one of our own. We have mourned our loss every year on this date. Today is the first time I thought to see if he was the only officer who died on this date, and I found that he was not alone; you were with him.
Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

I met this officer about 3 weeks to a month before his death, standing outside my house. I remember feeling impressed to speak to him about where he would spend eternity. I had NO idea that he would be dead almost exacally a month later...When i learned of his death it shook me to the core. I was devastated. I couldn't believe it!!! I just hope that he made peace with Jesus Christ...I remember telling him the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ...I think about him often.

I´m so sorry when young men die because of serving to other people. This is the dark side of such demanding work, but his parents should very proud how brave son they´ve educated.

Jim,

I sit here and think has it really been four years since your last call and six years from the academy? I can remember the academy like yesterday.

It always puts a smile on my face when i think of the scenarios at the academy and you're giving me the nod of we're gonna arrest on this scenario and i'm giving you the nod back.

My faithful servant.
You were called upon to serve others.
You were asked to see, what no man should ever have to see.
To go through, what no man should ever have to go through.
But you did so with pride, honor, and integrity.

My faithful servant.
You were called upon to defend those, who could not defend themselves.
To provide justice to those, who did not respect it.
To lay down your life, if the time called for it.
Again, you did not question what was asked of you.
You did it with love, compassion, and loyalty.

My faithful servant.
In times of adversity, you prayed for strength.
In times of triumph, you praised your Lord.
You served your Country, State, and city proud.
Your service will forever be remembered by the many lives you’ve touched.

My faithful servant.
When your service on this earth is finally complete.
I will welcome you home with open arms.
I will embrace you and proclaim,
“Well done thou good and faithful servant.”

I hope you are watching over us, I feel like I need it from time to time. It's been a little while since I was last on this page and reading the reflections. There are tough to get through, usually the tears stop me from getting past the 2nd or 3rd page. I'll see you some day brother in blue, RIP

Officer Bonneau,
Even though I did not know you, I feel like I did, one of my best friends worked with you, and we share the brotherhood of wearing the badge! Even though I am an officer out in the east coast, when I heard that an officer from Jackson MI lost his life in the line of duty in roll call, I immediately called my friend who works with your agency. I know how it is too lose a great friend, and I was able to speak to the officer, and he told me great things about you! We will always have that connection! To this day I wear the bracelet you department made to honor you, and have a sticker with your name and badge number hanging up in my locker, at work next to the picture of my best friend who also lost her life in the line of duty as well. This year I ran the national law enforcement 5k run in honor of you and my friend! You will never be forgotten, and to officers from Jackson MI PD if you are ever down for police week let me know would love to be your personal tour guide, and show you the memorial! Ask Chuck he has my info!

Jim,

I can't believe it's going to be 2 years on Friday. It was 2 years ago last week since I last saw your smiling face in detail. You were hugging me goodbye and wishing me luck with my new job. You had that trademark smile of yours on your face. I couldn't have asked for a better last memory of you. You are miss buddy, yesterday, today, and always.
