Reflections for Police Officer Vito S. Mauro

Vito is my hero forever! We both would talk about the glory days in the Marine Corps and how important it was that we need to stick together and look out for each other. Whenever I was having a bad day, he’d make me smile and laugh. “Go Recon!” Truly a brother and friend I will never forget! I miss you, big brother til we meet again in paradise!

Vito,

It was honor and a privilege to know you and work with you years ago in the 67 Precinct. I can't believe you are gone 10 years now. You always made us laugh at work. You were a special person and a good friend. May you rest in Eternal Peace!

I had the pleasure of working with Vito on late tours in the 67 Pct. Vito and I graduated the academy together but only first met when I was assigned to the 67. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. One minute he could have you laughing and the next minute he was right next to you at a gun run. He was always there for his brother and sisters in blue. A true hero who served both his country as well as the city of NY. RIP my friend you will never be forgotten.

Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts and reflections through the years. December 2 2015 (yesterday) the 67th Precinct honored Vito with a plaque which hangs next to the other fallen officers. 7 years later and i will always be grateful for all the support the NYPD AND PBA have given to my family. They are always there for us. And many of you were there yesterday with my daughter Eden.

I pray for all of you here and everywhere who have lost a loved one in the line of duty. We share a common bond and we fight to go on but never forget.

I only knew Vito a short time. In that time he left quite an impact on my life. He was proud to be a member of the 67 pct. and loved being a Marine. Vito was a kind and thoughtful man he was a pleasure to be around. He had a way about him... he could make a bad day a great day. Not a day goes by i don't think of my friend.... he was taken too soon! Iam glad Vito was given this respect to be honored in this way. I miss you dear friend.

To the family and friends of Officer Vito Mauro and his fellow officers:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Vito tragically died as a result of his heroism following 9/11. None of our 9/11 heroes will be forgotten.

To Officer Mauro's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Vito gave to his city and the citizens of New York, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on December 2, 2008.
