Reflections for Police Officer Robert J. Nicosia

One of the many amazing men and women who gave so selflessly and heroically that day and the many days that followed. Thank you for your service and please know that your sacrifice is always remembered by your law enforcement brethren.

Dear Bob,

Thank you. I thank you for teaching me firearms and for your patience and friendship. I enjoyed the stories and good times. I still have not found anyone more knowledgeable about firearms. We shared a special bond, Fire Chief and Police Officers. A dream every kid has. Bob, you are in my thoughts and prayers always.

To my friend,
Next month will be three years since Ive heard the word "Bro" . Not a day goes by that I dont miss you. I want you to know that Joey is doing well in the 103, and yes he's wearing your shield. Look down on him and keep him safe; Louise and the girls are doing well and your grandchildren are beautiful.
To those who are reading this and have shown support for Roberts family , Thank you.
On 9/11 Robert rushed to the Trade Center along with many other Police Officers and in the days following showed incredible bravery and courage, he was part of the team that found one of the last survivors alive, but the bravery and courage he showed that day was only a small piece of what was to come. Robert battle couragoeusly against his disease never letting anyone know how much he was hurting. He was the definition of brave. I love you and I miss you
Rest peacefully Until we get to sit in the woods again and laugh.

Bobby was simple put, one of the finest men I have ever met. I served under him for nine years as a member of Squad 1 in the WFD. His dedidcation as both a police officer for the NYPD and as a volunteer firefighter, rising through the ranks to Chief of Department, underscore his commitment to serving his community with honor and valor. Bobby will be missed by the many of us whose lives were touched by him.

Sleep well brother, we will miss you.

Until we meet again

Hey Bobby,
Some of my best memories in the Transit Police & the NYPD were spent working with you & the gang at Communication Support. As I write this I'm looking at some dark & grainy pictures of the day we got the Transit Police Golf Cart at the old bus depot. Although the pictures are not very clear, the memories are very clear. I remember you being like a kid in a toy store zipping around on that cart. I remember when I left the unit in 93 or 94 you were talking about going to work at the range & then years later I ran into you at Rodmans Neck & when you were talking about your new job as a firearms instructor you had that same kid in a toy store look on your face. You always took great pride in everything you did weather it be on the job, in the fire department, or in your personal life. You were a true gentleman, a great police officer, fire fighter & family man and you will truly be missed.
You and your family will always be in my prayers

To the family and friends of Officer Robert Nicosia and his fellow officers:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Robert tragically died as a result of his heroism following 9/11. None of our 9/11 heroes will be forgotten.

To Officer Nicosia's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Robert gave to his city and the citizens of New York, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 10, 2008.
