Reflections for Sergeant Alan J. Haymaker
His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

It saddens my heart to hear that another brother will not return home. I pray for the day that this page will cease to grow with names. I find it hard to control the chills I get every time I read the updates here but I believe that if they stop then I will then have no heart. God bless you Al, you'll be missed.

On Tuesday, February 2nd, I stood in line next to Alan @ Moody's Founder's Week. We talked about his many years working in the Austin Community and how he was just transferred to another area. He talked about his love for his job and how he saw it as opportunity for ministry. I know that he impacted many lives with his testimony. I pray for the family as the Lord carries you through this difficult time.

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!
"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I, for my part, know that my Redeemer lives
that He, at last, will rise on the earth.
After I wake up, he will make me stand next to Him,
and, in my flesh, I shall see God.
The One I shall see shall be for me,
the One I shall look upon will not be a stranger.
Just as he knows and cares for us:
"For you created my innermost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb." Psalm 139:13.
you go and rest rest now, and leave the battles to the rest of us. Every time a brother passes a little piece of each one of us dies too, we all know the sorrow and sadness that his family and extended family are going through. the only fortunate outcome is that he will be at peace now and watching over us.

On behalf of my parents, brothers and sisters, I would like to thank everyone for all of their kind thoughts and words in loving memory of my brother Alan. He died doing a job he loved and kept his relationship with God, his family, co-workers, the public in proper perspective. Since we are a police family of 3 generations it was always known that the job could take our loved ones suddenly. We were lucky up until now but know that our community is a safer place for us all with dedicated professional officers on the job. The loss of my brother Alan is a burden my family will share together in loving memory of him.
Sincerely, Jerry R. Haymaker
