Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Alan J. Haymaker

Al Haymaker was a blessing and encouragement to know. He was an admirable Christian man, and this world is a lesser place without him. Hearing of his passing moved me to tears here at work. I have no doubt that he was ready to meet his Lord, and for that I am glad, but I grieve with his family and friends for this sudden loss. I look forward to the day, however, when we will see him again in the presence of Jesus Christ our Savior, for all eternity. To his family who may be reading this - please know that you are constantly in my thoughts and prayers these days.
Sincerely,
Nathan

I did not know Sergeant Haymaker. I do believe I know of him. A man whom 'for not a whole lot of money; fame or acknowledgement lost his life trying to serve his community. I count myself fortunate that I serve in a profession in which its members run toward the danger and not away. For Sergeant Haymaker and so many others like him this year, I submit a line from a letter written to a Mrs. Bixby. No greater love folks, no greater love…

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost.

Yours very truly,

Abraham Lincoln
