I was browsing blutube when I came across audio of the night you passed. I listened to the radio traffic and 911 calls as a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice you have made for your brothers and sisters in blue and the community you served. Though we have never met in person in a way we know each other. We have it from here, RIP Sir.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Lieutenant Shuhandler. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Eric, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Eric's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Eric's life was about so much more than the way he died. Eric will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Lieutenant Shuhandler, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been seven years and a half years but he's still very much missed and forever loved.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Lt. Shuhandler was by far the best supervisor I've ever worked with. He was kind, understanding, and down to earth. He never talked down to anyone and he was extremely respectful and never abused his position or rank. When he spoke people listened and not just because of his rank, it was because he was such a great guy and we genuinely wanted to hear anything he had to say. He was well respected and I took advice from him because it was clear he knew what he was talking about. Command presence? Well he had that in abundance and much more.
It really is a terrible loss, for his family, the Gilbert Police Department, the Town of Gilbert, and anyone who now will never have the privilege of knowing Lieutenant Eric Lewis Shuhandler.

We were on vacation in Phoenix on Feb 3,2010 and were traveling the highway being passed by numerous squad cars. We soon realized, with much respect and sadness, where they were headed. Though we did not know who you were or the circumstances, our thoughts and prayers were with you, your family and your law enforcement family on that day.

To the Family of Lt. Shuhandler:
I wanted to offer my sympathies on your tragic murder in the line of duty. You were violently taken from your family, community and fellow officers. You were a true hero, whose bravery and courage went beyond. My dad was one of NYCPDs finest for almost 40 years. I noticed the article and usually inspectors funerals take a week to organize and out of respect to you and your family was handled as soon as possible in a most dignified manner. Rest in peace Lt. Shuhandler and Olav Hasholom.Your heroism won"t be forgotten.
