Reflections for Lieutenant Eric Lewis Shuhandler
Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.
Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:
“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]
[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]
And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]
“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

I worked with Eric while employed as an officer at the Gilbert Police Department. I was taking a few minutes today to reflect on the two friends I lost there. I hope you're looking down upon us today. You are still missed.

This was the first funeral I attended as a newer Police Officer. This still holds very close to my heart as I watched his two daughter from a distance. At the time I was also a single father of two little girls. It hit me very deep and I often think of Eric. Even though I did not know him personally the memory of this day stays with me to keep me coming home to my daughters. Rest easy Sir. We have the watch from here.

Everyone wishes we would wake up and that this was just a bad dream. It isn't and the reality still haunts us. Gilbert remembers.

Those two suspects should of been killed in that gun battle instead of wounded. Big disrespected shooting an officer. RIP Lewis.

Dear Eric,
I never met you, but wish I had. I have heard all about you as I am the proud father of a Gilbert Police Officer.
They remember and honor you everyday with their actions and thoughts. They wear your badge number on their uniforms, some have tatooed it on their arm.
More importantly they honor you with their work ethic, and dedication to duty in serving the community.
While all were heroes on January 28, 2010 as some of your brothers tried to save you and others hunted and captured your killers, they all wish it was a bad dream.
Gilbert remembers, your brothers in blue remember. You will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the second anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect, and your memory will always be honored and revered. .
I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. I hold your family in my heart's embrace today

Eric,
I saw that today was your birthday, and reading the birthday
wishes from your family and other friends at GPD, actually brought tears to my eyes.
Their sentiments are a tribute to the great person and officer you were.
It was an honor knowing and working with you for a few years before I ended up on disability.
I hope you're having one heck of a party up their with the other Angels.
Gone from this world, but forever in our hearts.
