Reflections for Trooper Jill E. Mattice
R.I.P.
Captain James Hanzey
Buckeye Lake Ohio
January 23, 2010
For Trooper Jill Mattice:
Our duty as state troopers takes us to all sorts of incidents to investigate, mediate and make some sort of disposition. Sometimes it is just enroute to these assignments that we encounter a most dangerous threat - the traffic on a United States highway. We are as much subjected to the cavalcade-of-carnage, that claims thousands of lives and injures many more, as anyone. Regretfully, today, a traffic crash would claim the life of Jill.
We pray for her family, friends, co-workers and all who care about her. We pray for them to come to the support of one another and to provide what is needed at the appropriate times. May each of them remember Jill for the light that she brought into there life.
I am proud to render Trooper Jill Mattice a final salute.

It saddens me hear of a fellow LEO becoming injuried or killed on/off-duty. I had a similiar incident--but by the grace of God I made it. For what reason he chose Ofc/Trop: Mattice, we will never know. But we can continue to remember her committment to serve the state of NY and provide us a safer nation. To the family of Trooper Jill Mattice, thanks for loaning us a hero--and my prayers are with you.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"
