In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Shorty Red,

We are gonna miss you greatly. I remember how you cooked for us during Hurricane Gustav and how you would bring food for us at roll call. How you would offer advice to new Officers and make people laugh. I remember talking to you a few weeks before this tragedy and you discussed how you were ready to retire and go back into teaching, because you wanted to help the children of the community. We are all at a loss today and we will miss you, keep guard over us while we try to do as good of a job as you did protecting this city. Rest in Peace Shorty, You will be missed.

I happened to be in NOLA the day of your accident, visiting with friends that live in NOLA, some of whom work NOPD and NO EMS. Because of this, I feel a connection to NOLA and the loss of a great cop to the City hits hard, even 1000 miles away in NYC. Rest in peace, brother. We will continue your watch. Condolences to your family, children, friends and co-workers.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Celestain and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Celestain, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Celestain is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family, and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Dad I will really miss you. I know you are in a better place, free of pain and discomfort.
I hated to lose you at such a young age, but he had another plan for you.
I remember the last things you told me and I promise you that I will not let you down. Just like when Katrina hit and you told me all the things that you wanted me to do. I will never let you down, NEVER!
You meant so much to me, you were a father, a friend, and a mentor to me. We had 32 yrs of great times, and we will continue to have great times until we meet again. I love you dad, I love you, i love you.

you.
