Reflections for Corporal James John Szuba

Finally made it out to pay my respects to you and all the others that have gone too soon. My son and I had our picture taken next to you. I couldn't myself from crying. Gavin just grabbed my hand and told me, it's okay. I miss you.

It's hard to believe that it's been so long. You were such a kind man and loving father. You were an example of what a good officer should be.

Jim today marks the 4 year anniversary for my heroes, at time it has gone so slowly and others fast, I miss you very much. Words cannot express how much. We're surviving which means it's always a day to day battle without you and Ricky. You were my world. God how much I miss you. I still ask why. You will be comforted to know how much support your family had and I hope you know how blessed we were with such caring people in our lives, then and now. I could write a book on how much your missed. I miss so much the simple things like your smile, holding your hand and the anticipation of every time you walked thru the door. There are still days I expect you to come home after your shift, I don't think that will ever stop. I just want you to know how much I love you and miss you so much. Give my sweet Ricky a hug from mama, tell him I love and miss my boy, and so many kisses and hugs for you that we can never share. I take that back one day I will get to hold you again. Until that day, you are forever in my heart and so very missed. I love you so much.

I was assigned a project by my Social Studies teacher a few weeks ago. We were given a fallen officer and told to memorialize them.
Well, I was given Corporal Szuba. Over the course of this project, I feel like I have grown to know him personally. He was a great man, and the Mishawaka community suffered a loss with his passing.
My condolences go out to the family. Loosing a loved one is never easy. People get taken from us much sooner than we'd like, and we just have to deal with it the best we can.
Though he has passed, his memory still remains. He paid the ultimate sacrifice, and no amount of thanks would be ever be enough.
Regardless of that: Thank you for your service.
Neither Corporal Szuba nor Ricky shall ever be forgotten.

Thank you for your service Jim and Ricky! I made it home to the midwest in July and was able to visit with Debbie for a bit, and even though I haven't seen her in years and I've never met you, nor recognized your name at first when spoken of, your presence was quickly felt there with us. You and Debbie have a love like no other. You are dearly missed by so many. I wish I could have known you, the love of my cousin. You are quite the Angel.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 10th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Rest In Peace

I am nothing but a student for my high school, and I was tasked with for my semester project to look up stories about officers harmed in the Line of Duty and writing a report on that person. I found this story, and originally skimmed through it. I came back tonight and re-read it at length, and I can honestly say I almost cried. Seeing how all these people care about John makes a man rethink life and how quickly it can be taken away. My best regards, and my good thoughts go to the family and friends of Corporal Szuba. A hero never dies - not really. They live on within us...

Today I thought about you alot, I watched a top shot marathon, then Steph posted something about her finals on FB. All day... all I could think about was you Jim. So, trying to clear my mind, I took Smudge for a walk and the first dog we saw was a sheppard. Looking back at my day [with you in it], it was pretty damn good. Thanks for being with me today !

Corporal Szuba
Often times people are taken from us for no apparent reason. I know that you and Ricky are looking down on all your brothers and sisters in law enforcement keeping us all safe. This May 10th-12th I have the distinct privilege of riding in your memory from Chesapeake,VA to Northern, VA. If your family is going to be at police week, I would be so honored to meet them. Keep us all safe, we have the watch now.
