Reflections for Corporal Dennis Edward Engelhard
Hi Dennis,
You and I have never met but I got to know you through your love Kelly. We were unlikely friends who were bonded by our shared losses. As I got to know him it was easy to see why you loved him. He had such a big heart. Kelly shared with me many stories about you and your life together. Even across the miles it was obvious how much he loved you too. As much as I miss my friend, I take comfort in knowing that you two have been reunited and that you both sit at the foot of Jesus being accepted "just as you (both) are." I thank you for loving Kelly, for looking out for Zach, and for your service to the community. I pray that you have had a chance to meet up with my Dennis and some of the other "blue angels" out there. Please give Kelly, my Dennis, and all the angels a big hug for me and continue to watch out for us still down here as only you can.
Love and light,
Jocelyne Brar

Your heroism and service is honored today, the second anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family and loved ones are in my heart's embrace today. Kelly, thank you for sharing your love of Dennis with us.
I was saddened to see that Christmas Day is the eow for so many, many officers. Rest In Peace.

You can shed tears that he is gone, or you can smile because he has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all he's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see him, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live... yesterday, or you... can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him only that he is gone, or you can cherish his memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back. Or you can do what he'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on

Thank you for all the wonderful and inspirational messages sent on Dennis's behalf. He would have been so honored to have so many folks from all over the country sharing their condolences. April 24th of 2011 would have been our 16th anniversary together. A day doesn't go by that I don't long to hear his patrol car come pulling up the drive way and have him come inside in a good mood asking me how was my day even when he would have worked overtime and put in over a 12 hour shift. He was always in a good mood and enjoyed his work with the Missouri State Highway Patrol so much. The second year of Police Week is approaching however this year I don't plan on attending do to financial and health reasons. I've been working through the stages of grieving and this week I've realized I've never come to terms with acceptance yet. This has got to be the hardest step to take.
I wish Dennis could be able to see Zachary graduate from high school this year and start his college years to Drury; but unfortunately this won't be able to happen. I wish when I was hospitalized twice this year and nearly died back in January I had Dennis with me to tell me "your going to pull through this, we will make it through this together" however this will not happen. Instead I'm faced with going through my remainder years here on earth without Dennis by my side.
I long for the day that we will be reunited one day in the presence of our God, until then I'll simply say a prayer and will tell you quietly beside your ashes at Christ Church Cathedral this Sunday "Happy Anniversary Sweetheart!". I'll shed a few tears, light a candle, say a prayer and cross his marker, kiss my fingers and touch the cold stone in the floor where my true love is buried in the small chapel inside Christ Church Cathedral. Somehow I know you'll be watching over Zachary and myself and will be looking down from heaven with love. I've never had anyone love me unconditionally as you had loved me, you treated me like an angel; now your the angel watching over us.
God Bless and Rest in Peace my love

Dennis, a year ago today you left home and began what many of us hope will be a nice quiet Christmas shift. No doubt you had plans to celebrate with Kelly and his son after work. Sadly you never got that chance. On this one year anniversary of your passing, please know that your life has been an inspiration to many. And, please take comfort that you are now in a place that is free from prejudice, hatred, bigotry...where there is only love and peace everlasting. God bless your loved ones until that day you are all reunited. As for myself, I am looking forward to shaking your hands and calling you "Brother" forever. In the meantime, please watch over us from that Land Above

"I am the Trooper"
I have been where you fear to be,
I have seen what you fear to see,
I have done what you fear to do -
All these things I have done for you.
I am the person you lean upon,
The one you cast your scorn upon,
The one you bring your troubles to -
All these people I've been for you.
The one you ask to stand apart,
The one you feel should have no heart,
The one you call "The Statie,"
But I'm just a person, not to be hated.
And through the years I've come to see,
That I am not always what you ask of me;
So, take this badge ... take this gun ...
Will you take it ... will anyone?
And when you watch a person die
And hear a battered baby cry,
Then do you think that you can be
All these things you ask of me?
