In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!
"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Knock, Knock I knocked at heaven's door this morning. God asked me...'My child, what can I do for you?' And I said, 'Father, please protect and bless the person reading this message..' God smiled and answered...'Request granted'.

I may not have met you while on this earth though I am sure the privilege would have been all mine. Here are but a few words of something I wrote in 2003, because as a Law Enforcement Deputy, your intent, abilities, personality and caring spirit for your community shall forever endure.
Many of you have seen me drive by, met me or even had me respond to a situation involving yourself, a family member, or a friend, but very few of you actually know me. Some of you dislike me for the job I do, or the way in which you where treated by another Officer, but do you really know ME? We are not all the same, and neither you nor I should be solely judged by the action of others. My job takes me places and into situations most would never go.
My badge represents that there are laws in our land, that I am sworn to uphold. Each time I put on my uniform, I know not what activities are before me, or the dangers I may face. My authority and duty I do not treat lightly, as I wear my uniform with Pride, Integrity and Honor.
When most would be running away from danger, my job requires me to run towards it. I do this in the hopes of making a difference for someone I may not even know. Don't they understand what I am willing to sacrifice to Serve and Protect the citizens in our community? Monetary gains, could never compensate someone who risks their life and faces danger for people they may never know.
Some people wonder why so many Officers converge on towns across this nation, when an Officer is Killed In The Line Of Duty. I can simply say, that they come to pay respects to someone who did the job they do, in support of other Officers, as a show of respect to family, and to show Pride, Integrity and Honor for a fallen hero whose community has lost a friend. I have attended way too many of these but if you shed a tear for another, it will help cleanse your soul. It is the memories that will get you through the years.
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death and though I mark on duty, my calls unknown, I fear no evil, for the majority are with me, nor do I worry of my own safety, all of this I do for the citizens of my community. An Officer’s family can be filled with worry and though they are strong, they know that their loved one may be placed in harms way. Through this, they stand tall, with Pride, Integrity and Honor.
Though I have made mistakes, accept me, as I accept you and show me the way …..Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Sir, I salute you .... for you served your community with Pride, Integrity and Honor
