To Officer Greg Richards, his family and loved ones, and to his fellow officers with the Lakewood Police Department:
I extend my sincerest condolences on the grievous loss sustained when Greg and his three fellow officers were brutally murdered. May you be comforted by your faith and the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement. Other police survivors will be here to help you when you are ready. You do not walk this path alone.
Greg, your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. You will always be honored and revered. Both the pain and pride are forever.
This reflection is sent with the deepest respect for the many years of service to your community and the citizens of Washington, and the supreme sacrifice you and your family made on November 29, 2009.

A PART OF AMERICA DIED
Somebody killed a policeman today .... And a part of America died…. A piece of our country he swore to protect .... Will be buried with him at his side.... The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,.... Just as if he had gone off to war, .... Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast .... To his name they will add a gold star.... The suspect that shot him will stand up in court .... With counsel demanding his rights,.... While a young widowed mother must work for her kids .... And spend many long, lonely nights... .. Yes, somebody killed a policeman today…. Maybe in your town or mine,.... While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors.... A cop put his life on the line.... Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street, .... And he stands at each new rookie's side; .... He answered the call… of himself gave his all,.... And a part of America died.

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. His friends & family do not grieve alone. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only strength & peace through such incidents, and our comfort is the assurance that He will judge the guilty.
Another senseless tragedy
Another day of grief,
Another day of praying
To help us find relief.
Relief from bitter anguish
Relief from rage so great,
Relief from lenient justice
Which continues to seal our fate.
Relief from heartache’s torment
As we continue on,
Oh, the awesome loss of brotherhood
Now that you are gone.
Though our hearts are deeply broken
And our tears forever flow,
There’s a comforting assurance
That now with God you go.
We know that you are welcome
Now at Heaven’s gate,
While meeting brothers & sisters
Who also met such fate.
The family of Law Enforcement
Knows no distance here or there,
And we recall in comfort
You await us there.

I AM A WARRIOR — by Jon F. Hooper
I stand with God. I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary.
I fight for those who can’t. I fight for Justice.
I fight for the oppressed and the downtrodden.
And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, for I serve to protect the innocent.
It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries.
Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee.
Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor.
Cry not at my passing, for it was my honor to fight for you.
Shed not tears of sorrow, but tears of joy:
For now, I stand with God!
Blessed are the peacekeepers

Your city, your state and our nation of law enforcement brothers and sisters are in total grief learning of the loss of you, your brothers and a sister to one sadistic action by a perp who has only hate in his heart for our brothers and sisters who serve to protect his rights. God must be as heart broken as we mortals at this action. He has received the four of You in His special group of brothers and sisters in the badge in His kingdom. As you rest in His arms be conforted in knowing Your rbothers and sisters left behind will care for your family and will never let your names be forgotten. Rest in peace. In Christ.
