Thank you for service. Some things in life simply do not make sense, and this tragic event is one of them. You are a hero in the eyes of your fellow brothers and sisters in blue. May you rest in peace Sgt. Keep watch over those of us that still hold the thin blue line. God bless your family and friends as well.

Final Inspection
The Policeman stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with You?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true?"

The officer squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Cause those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.

But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I've never expected or had too much. But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod.
As the officer waited quietly for the answer of his God.

"Step forward now, Officer, you've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's Streets. You've done your time in Hell."

Anyone who knew Mark Renninger knew where you stood with him. Mark was not the kind of cop that did what was popular, Mark did what was right. Mark was a great Police Officer and a great leader but most of all he was a great friend. He inspired me to be a better cop. Today we lost one of the best, and I lost my best friend. Not a day will go by that I will not think of you and your family. Rest In Peace Brother.

Just as brightly as his brass.

To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,

When I heard of this tragedy I felt the need to write to you..the wife. My husband too was ambushed and killed in the line of duty and his killer is still at large. Find peace in knowing that our husbands are together smiling down on us even though our tears are still flowing. Don't cloud your mind with the hate and distress that humanly come natural to us for the events that occurred. I believe this was part of my Tom's journey and just as I supported him for doing what he loved to do, I will always support and pray for him for dying while doing what he loved to do. No one knows why these series of events happen, so I've learned to stop trying to figure it out. I have 5 beautiful children who miss and ache for his presence everyday but we've found so many positive things from his death that its impossible for us to be sad everyday. You too will find that happiness once you are no longer numb, don't rush it, just embrace the day you can look up and smile again...believe me, it will come.
