Reflections for Sergeant Mark Joseph Renninger

Dear Family,
I just want to let you know that my heart goes out to you your three children and the whole Lakewood Police Department...I have walked in your shoes and know what you are dealing with...
I lost my husband (Det. Jarrod B. Shivers) on 1/17/08 and it was the most difficult time of my life...Your husband Mark was a true hero and he did a job that not everyone can do...It takes a very "special" person and he filled those shoes...Just always keep his memory alive with not how he died but in the way he lived...That has truly helped me deal with the pain and loss...
With much love from my family to yours, Nicole Shivers

I and my family wish to express our sincere sympathy to Mark’s entire family and friends. This is not the way that any of us think that we are going to leave this world. The person was dealt justice by the hands of one of our other brother officers. Our prayers are with everyone in this time of great loss. Mark and the other officers and family belong to the largest family in the world, The Law Enforcement Family. Our prayers are with you all now and for always. May God bless everyone.

May God continue to mend you and watch over you. This is beyond what any of us can even comprehend. I think of me and my fellow officers when we meet to get coffee before the end of our shift, and think....this could happen to us. It is absolutely heart breaking. Sergeant Renninger, I'm approaching the end of a long career in law enforcement. I still suit up every day but gone are the days of running radar on the highways, wrestling drunks, and responding to domestics. Like you, I've done it all, but I've managed to survive the past 35 years. The circumstances of your untimely and tragic death is an unfortunate reminder that all it takes is a coward with a gun. Rest in peace brother.
