Staff Sergeant, you trained us hard in the Corps, it wasn't always appreciated but it prepared us to fight, to win. In two days I will become a police officer as well. You taught me how to shoot a pistol, I shot the class high. I will never stop training hard, I will never back down, I will never forget. Thank you.

Remembering you on this, the first anniversary of your passing, and praying that God will comfort those you left behind. This is the first of many anniversaries they will have to spend without you, and although it never gets easier, they are never alone. I pray especially for your children, that they grow to know their daddy was a hero and will forever be remembered for his service, dedication and sacrifice. Thank you, Officer Nettleton.

When I got to Kilo in Sept of 2001 as a new PFC, we all anticipated heading off to war, but it was too early to know where. Trevor was one of our loudest Sgts, and kept at his work, sharpening us like a knife, for the coming battles. On duty or off, he was never easy on us, and a lot of us hated him for it. Trevor was good at his job, though, and made the best Marines he could. He gruffly taught everything he could to anyone who needed it, and I remember him adjusting the trajectory on my M203 on a range on the Big Island at PTA. Later that week, he would throw himself on top of another Marine when that Marine bounced a grenade wrong in a trench, saving them both from shrapnel during a trench clearing training exercise. I am certain many of the Marines he taught survived the coming war, or at least gave a sterling accounting of themselves before they fell, in no small part due to his example and instruction.
I remember Trevor and Sgt. Schulze hanging out a lot on libo, and they were quite the odd couple, as Sgt Schulze was so soft spoken, kind, and gentle (shouting came awkwardly out of his throat, as if it bumped into one side, and staggered a bit because of it) while Trevor was always yelling at someone, ever the hard-ass, making sure everyone kept their gear tight, even on libo. Once in Korea, Trevor made the mistake of trying to pull rank in a bar about something, and Cpl. Wasche (soon to be my squad leader) gave him two black eyes before throwing him over his shoulder and carrying him home.
When I heard Trevor had been killed, I was enraged, feeling perhaps that none of us who survived our service during the war were destined to survive peace. The more I read about the incident and Trevor, the more I saw we had in common. We both graduated HS in 1997 and were about the same age, both married with two small children. When Trevor was killed, I was in my first semester of Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement, and I'm still working toward becoming a cop.
Trevor, somehow you were always there before me.
See you in Valhalla, brother...

I grew up playing baseball with Trevor. I had no idea our lives would take similar paths into law enforcement. What happened is Terrible and Sad. Trevor, I wish I had known you better.

Trevor, we met your brother Ryan at National Police Week; he is so proud of you and misses you terribly. He was able to meet with Congressman (and former Sheriff) Reichert, and presented him a rubbing of your name from the Memorial wall - not a dry eye in the room.
Rest in peace; you will not be forgotten.

I am so sorry for your family's loss of a son, brother, husband and father. Whilst visiting from England to see family, they told me what had happened and we visited your graveside and had our own private thoughts of your loss. What a waste of a young life! I don't know your family or you but just wanted your family to know that a complete strange is thinking of your family and hope that in the future, peace will come to their hearts. I know. I have lost too. May your family be strong in heart and soul.

While I never knew you, I wanted to take this time out on Christmas day to let your family know that you are being remembered on this day. Even by strangers from out of state. I never had the priviledge of knowing Officer Nettleton, but as a former Marine myself and current police officer, I feel more then confident in speaking for his character. Trevor was a member of two very special fraternities, The United States Marine Corps and public law enforcement (LVMPD Chapter).
When I was in boot camp one of our drill instructors told us "There will be wars and in war Marines will die...but as a Marine you will live forever in the name of the Corps". Trevor will also live forever. Everytime you hear the Marine hymn or see a Las Vegas patrol car glide by on patrol....Trevor will be there.
GOD Bless, GOD Speed and Semper Fi Marine

Trevor,
Again and again I find myself peering back into this site to see your face. I am still lost for words and always have a split second of hope that your photo doesn't pop up and this was all a terrible dream.
I pulled out the albums from our days in Security Forces and showed them to my wife the other night... several from the '99 Marine Corps Ball made me question how we ever made it into this profession... You were quite the influence :)
It was good to remind myself of the great times and memories we shared instead of the horor that I read in the news. You had a profound impact on everyone Trevor and I truly hope your family is made aware of ODMP so they can see that.
As the holidays approach, I can only hope that your family finds comfort in knowing that your a hero in all regards! Your brothers and sisters at LVMPD as well as the rest of the Law Enforcement family will carry a piece of you in our hearts forever.
I look forward to seeing you again my friend!
Danielle, although we have never met, we share a common thread in knowing the great Man, Marine, Officer, Husband and Father that Trevor is and will always be! My deepest condolences to you and your children.
God Bless

Dear Family,
I just want to let you know that my heart goes out to you your children and the whole Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department...Your husband Trevor was a true hero and he did a job that not everyone can do...It takes a very "special" person and he filled those shoes...Just always keep his memory alive with not how he died but in the way he lived...That has truly helped me deal with the pain and loss...
With much love from my family to yours,

I do not know the events that lead to the deadly assault by those scum. Your fight for life was gallant and your aim was on the mark. All of us in Law enforcement have a lot to be proud of by your actions that day. May God bless you and your family. May you rest in Peace.
